The Adventures of Naruto's Son Are Followed in Boruto

Following the end of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto manga in November 2014, the emphasis shifted to the titular character’s son, Boruto. On August 7th, 2015, Boruto made his grand entrance in Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Directed by Hiroyuki Yamashita (The Last: Naruto the Movie) and Toshiyuki Tsuru (Naruto Shippuden), the movie follows Boruto and his companions from the Hidden Leaf Village as they take part in the Chunin Exams. The film was released in North America on October 10, 2015.

Following the film’s release, Weekly Shonen Jump launched the Boruto manga series in May 2016. After Ukyo Kodachi wrote Chapters 1-51, Masashi Kishimoto and his assistant Mikio Ikemoto took over, beginning with Chapter 52. The popular anime adaptation from Pierrot debuted in April 2017, introducing Boruto as a young ninja trying to make a name for himself separate from his famous father. With the help of his classmates Mitsuki and Sarada Uchiha, and Naruto’s old rival-friend Sasuke Uchiha, Boruto starts training in order to take on a new villain, “Code,” who wishes to become a Celestial Being by absorbing all the universe’s chakra. The anime is currently in the middle of the manga’s “Code Arc.”

Boruto’s Tales Are Criticized by Naruto Fans

Despite the immense popularity of the Naruto series, some fans have expressed hostility towards its successor, Boruto. This year, the Boruto anime covered the “Sasuke’s Story” arc, which included an episode where Sasuke was seen fighting a dinosaur at an archeological observatory. While this scene originated from the light novel series Sasuke’s Story: The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust, various viewers accuse the anime creators of using this bizarre plot device to garner attention for an otherwise dull series. Some fans even blamed this scene on Kishimoto’s lack of quality control.
