Demon Slayer’s Demons Evolve – Muzan’s Plan Unveiled

Muzan Kibutsuji from Demon Slayer is widely believed to be the most powerful demon in existence, likely a result of his ability to control and command his minions.

Muzan Kibutsuji, more commonly known as the Demon King, is the source of all demonic activity in the Demon Slayer world. He was the first human to ever become a demon and has been amassing an army of creatures over the course of a millennium, bringing fear to humanity and prompting the formation of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Muzan is recognized worldwide as an invincible tyrant, unrivaled in strength. Yet, the power of his rule is only possible due to his dominion over his demons. Those few who have broken free from his grasp have demonstrated immense potential to become even more powerful and advanced.

Muzan has absolute dominance over the demons in his service. He micromanages his forces to the most meticulous detail. Nonetheless, there are certain instances when demons are liberated from his control and become more powerful than before. Nezuko Kamado serves as the first example of this. After being changed, she quickly managed to surpass Muzan’s power, increasing her regeneration and speed. Over a short period of time, Nezuko was also able to cultivate a Blood Demon Art that only harms demons, a feat that typically requires a substantial amount of training and human blood.

Although Nezuko was the first example of demon evolution to be revealed, she was not the first to undergo the change. Tamayo, the doctor striving to find a cure for Nezuko, was once loyal to Muzan, but after witnessing Yoriichi Tsugikuni almost take down her master, she was given new hope. Tamayo’s wish for vengeance for her family and her hatred for Muzan enabled her to break away from her master’s control and similarly to Nezuko, she was able to suppress her demonic instincts, choose to purchase blood rather than kill innocents, and use medicines to modify her demon powers so she could lead a more human-like life. Nezuko was even able to recognize Tamayo as a human and not a demon, making the doctor feel proud of her transformation.

Nezuko and Tamayo both altered their demonic traits to coexist peacefully with humans, but Akaza had a different purpose. His human memories stirred, inspiring him to protect his family. As a result, he developed a power unlike any other in Demon Slayer: the capacity to survive decapitation by a Nichirin sword.

Despite understanding the truth, Akaza accepted his defeat. He used his own strength to prevent his regeneration even after being beheaded, however the Demon King’s will still kept him alive. With the love for his family and reverence for his former master, Akaza was able to overpower Muzan a second time and ascend into the afterlife with his family.

If demons break free of Muzan’s control, they tend to develop enhanced abilities, surpassing the strength of regular demons. This could lead to greater agility, strength and endurance, and even unkillability by decapitation – a dangerous possibility for humanity. If more demons were to gain back their own will, there is no telling what kind of power they could unlock.

Muzan’s rigorous management of his forces could be in order to contain them and avoid the risk of a more powerful demon arising from his own creation. He is conscious of the potential of a demon to evolve, thus likely aiming to maintain his standing as the most powerful and ensure his own longevity. There is no doubt that this is not for the benefit of the Demon Slayer Corps but for his own agenda.

The Demon King, Muzan, is exceptionally intelligent and utilizes this to his advantage. He keeps demons in line by instilling fear, thereby taking away their autonomy and granting him total domination. Those demons who succeed in freeing themselves from his authority display a remarkable increase in strength, which suggests that Muzan has been restraining their potential. He requires keeping control of the demons to ensure his status as the supreme demon and defend himself from any potential revolts.
