Manabu Ohtsuka, CEO of Jujutsu Kaisen producers MAPPA, recently revealed that Season 2 of the popular shonen series will be even bigger and better than before. He vowed that the studio will not be content with repeating the same tactics from the first season and is aiming to deliver a greater experience for fans when the new episodes air in July. Ohtsuka’s ambition to improve the show has created much anticipation for what viewers can expect from Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season.

What Attracts Fans to Jujutsu Kaisen?
Since its debut in December 2019, Jujutsu Kaisen has been highly praised by both critics and fans, with its position on the 2023 New York Times Bestsellers list further solidifying its status as one of the leading shonen titles. In 2020, MAPPA’s anime adaptation exceeded the expectations of manga fans, presenting the story of young sorcerer Itadori Yuji with remarkable animation and music. The series has also been recognized for its depiction of female characters, which is a huge step forward for the shonen genre, traditionally known for its limitation of female characters’ roles.
The anime has been the subject of much discussion for its not-so-positive news, with voice actor Takahiro Sakurai withdrawing from the Jump Festa 2023 panel. Sakurai had portrayed the role of antagonist Suguru Geto to great success, however, it was revealed that he had been engaged in an affair with three different women for almost a decade. MAPPA has yet to make an official declaration about Sakurai’s future, but the actor was recently dropped from the anime movie Mononoke, suggesting that the studio is likely to recast the part of Geto soon.
Mononoke has decided to postpone its release due to recasting, however, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s debut seems unaffected by Sakurai’s scandal and is still on track to air on July 2023.
