The success of Creed III at the box office, having earned over $100 million globally, has sparked expansion of the Creed franchise. Michael B. Jordan, in the lead-up to the movie’s release, highlighted his anime influence on the boxing sequences and Creed’s ring attire. Jordan commented, “I brought my enthusiasm for anime into the boxing and training sequences, such as Hajime No Ippo, with the inner dialogue of what’s taking place in the ring.”

Adonis Creed in Creed III is pitted against his past, embodied by his former childhood friend and fallen boxing prodigy, Damien “Dame” Anderson (Jonathan Majors). To give their rivalry in and out of the ring a unique spin, director Ryan Coogler drew inspiration from relationships depicted in anime shows such as Hajime No Ippo and My Hero Academia. “Without getting too technical… I wanted to put my own twist on the fights we’ve seen in the Rocky and Creed franchise,” Jordan said. “…All of the anime I watched as a kid have a certain spirit to them in terms of how they battle, their bonds and relationships, and all that good stuff. It’s very similar to the bond Adonis Creed and Damian Anderson have, and also his ties to his family. So, I tried to capture some of those moments.”

Although Sylvester Stallone publicly expressed disapproval for the idea of a Ivan Drago spinoff featuring Dolph Lundgren reuniting with Viktor (Florian Munteanu), Lundgren has denied that any production plans for the project are in place. He stated, “There’s no approved script, no deals in place, no director and I was personally under the impression that my friend Sly Stallone was involved as a producer or even as an actor.” This suggests that despite the Creed franchise, any further expansion of the Rocky-verse with Ivan Drago is yet to be confirmed.
