Unlocking the Unstoppable Force: Mera Mera no Mi’s Powers and Abilities, Explained

In the realm of One Piece, anyone who consumes a Devil Fruit is bestowed with extraordinary capabilities which they can then sharpen and make use of for their own purposes, such as for defense, offense, or other purposes. Out of the three kinds of Devil Fruits, Logia is perceived to be the most powerful. The Mera Mera no Mi is among the strongest of Devil Fruits in the entire One Piece series. This Devil Fruit enables the user to turn their body into fire, making them impervious to any physical assault apart from those empowered by Haki.

The Mera Mera no Mi is one of the few Devil Fruits that have been used by more than one person, and it played a significant role in making Ace one of the most feared pirates in the world. This powerful fruit meant that Ace rarely had to use his Haki. After Ace’s passing, his brother Sabo took possession of it and with it, inherited Ace’s legacy.

The “Flame-Flame Fruit”, also referred to as the Mera Mera no Mi is a Devil Fruit that provides its user the ability to generate, control, and even transform into the fire. It has an orange-colored, round shape with flame patterns in a swirling pattern, while the stem on its top is also twisted. So far, all Logia users encountered by Luffy have been adversaries of his, except the Mera Mera no Mi users, who just so happen to be his brothers. As per the power of a Logia-type Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi enables its user to both generate and become fire, unleashing powerful fire-based attacks.

Users of the Mera Mera no Mi Devil Fruit are able to create fire-based attacks and gain high resistance toward heat-based attacks, allowing them to enhance their physical attacks. However, powerful opponents such as Akainu, who possess the Magu Magu no Mi, can still prove to be a challenge. Additionally, when the Mera Mera no Mi power clashes against certain Logia users, it can reach a standstill. Furthermore, it cannot overpower smoke or ice Logia users, and instead these powers cancel each other out. Additionally, Mera Mera no Mi users are weak against seawater and sea prism stone, just like any other Devil Fruit user in One Piece.

Ace’s Mera Mera no Mi Techniques

Ace's Mera Mera no Mi Techniques

Despite being highly accomplished in the various forms of Haki, Ace predominantly uses his Devil Fruit abilities in combat. One of his popular techniques, known as Kagero (Heat Haze), allows him to shoot fire from his palms, as seen in his battle against Smoker in the “Arabasta” saga. His defensive move, Enjomo (Blaze Net), creates a circle of flames around a designated area to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. He can use this technique to both entrap an adversary and protect himself by shielding them from entering the circle. Ace’s signature move, Hiken (Fire Fist), has earned him the nickname ‘Fire Fist Ace’.

Ace can use a technique known as Enkai, meaning Flame Commandment, to turn his fist into flames and launch powerful strikes that can demolish multiple ships in one hit. His most potent ability is Hibashira, or Fire Pillar – following Enkai, Ace is able to gather a huge amount of flames around him, then shoot them either upwards to take out enemies above him; or downwards when he is in midair.

Ace’s most powerful move is Dai Enkai: Entei, or the Great Flame Commandment. This technique allows him to focus and condense fire around himself and then manifest it into a large fireball, resembling a miniature sun. He then hurls it at his enemies, resulting in total destruction. Ace only ever used this technique against Blackbeard, leading to his eventual demise. Additionally, Ace also utilizes Hiyaku, or Fire Leg, to ignite the soles of his feet and propel himself into the air for an additional attack on his adversaries.

The Mera Mera no Mi Techniques of Sabo

The Mera Mera no Mi Techniques of Sabo

Despite possessing the same Devil Fruit, Sabo’s utilization of Mera Mera no Mi is unique. Even prior to acquiring the Devil Fruit’s power, Sabo had already established his prowess as a fighter. He has thus found ways to incorporate the Mera Mera no Mi’s capabilities into his existing fighting style, i.e. the Dragon Claw. What’s remarkable is that Sabo was able to use Mera Mera no Mi’s powers almost immediately after consuming it.

Despite having difficulty initially coming to grips with his newfound powers, it doesn’t take long for Sabo to become accustomed to them. He even faces formidable opponents such as Admiral Fujitora and Jesus Burgess. As Sabo is revealed to have inherited Ace’s will, he is also afforded the opportunity to wield the Fire Fist technique, capable of producing a blaze strong enough to shatter even a sturdy stone stage. Furthermore, Sabo is able to use this attack in the Corrida Colosseum shortly after consuming the fruit.

Sabo combines the power of the Mera Mera no Mi with his fighting style to create his attack, Moeru Ryusoken: Kaen Ryuo, which translates to Burning Dragon Claw Fist: Fire Flame Dragon King. He coats his fists with Armament Haki and ignites them, then slams them into his adversary and spins them before unleashing a blast of flames that throws his victim a great distance and leaves them with flame burns. He first used this technique to defeat Burgess.
