Summer Release Window Announced for New Naruto Manga

This summer, Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine will feature a new Naruto manga one-shot by Masashi Kishimoto that focuses on Minato, the father of Naruto.

According to an article on Crunchyroll, fans of Naruto will have the chance to dive into the series’ next chapter this summer. Masashi Kishimoto’s new one-shot manga, which stars Minato, the winner of the NARUTOP99 character poll, will be released in a summer edition of the Weekly Shōnen Jump. Kishimoto revealed that the storyline of the manga will delve into “the hidden narrative behind the formation of Minato’s skill.” The official Twitter accounts for Naruto and Boruto shared promotional illustrations that highlight Minato’s triumph.

NARUTOP99 was a worldwide survey intended to ascertain the preferences of the fanbase regarding their favorite characters. From December 17, 2022, to January 31, 2023, fans had the opportunity to cast their votes. The outcomes, presented in the form of a Top 100 list, demonstrated that Minato had surpassed his son in securing the top spot. Itachi Uchiha and Sakura Haruno came in second and third, respectively. Naruto was ranked as the sixth most popular character in the franchise.

Sakura Fans Tried to Influence the Results

Despite Minato being declared the winner of the NARUTOP99 poll, Sakura supporters allegedly collaborated to manipulate the outcome in her favor through illegitimate means. This was only a minor part of a larger scandal where Sakura-centric chat groups like “Sakura Daily Vote” were caught disseminating instructions on how to use mass voting software to influence the results of the preliminary “Best Fight” poll leading up to NARUTOP99. As a result, Sakura’s battle with Sasori, the puppetmaster, came in the first place, surpassing even Naruto and Sasuke’s historic reconciliation brawl.

As of March 2023, Naruto is ranked as the fifth best-selling manga series worldwide, with over 250 million copies circulating globally. Although the Naruto manga wrapped up in November 2014, the story lives on in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which made its debut in May 2016. At present, the manga is in the middle of the “Omnipotence” arc, which follows a Cyborg named Eida and her ability that she employs to deceive everyone in the Hidden Leaf into believing that Boruto is Kawaki. The first part of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime series produced by Pierrot concluded on March 26, with the “Code” arc being about halfway through. This arc revolves around the villain named Code, who seeks to achieve Godhood. Pierrot announced the greenlighting of Part II in March, but a release date has yet to be confirmed by the studio.

You can find Naruto and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in English on VIZ. Additionally, Hulu and Crunchyroll offer streaming services for Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
